Music Sleuths is a small UK hobby project I created as a lifelong music lover who adores digging through lyrics, production trivia, obscure album facts, collaborations, iconic gigs, and all those little moments that make songs and artists magical.
Skip the playlist shuffle, skip the boredom — just clever cryptic clues delivered straight to your inbox, secret music connections to unravel from your sofa, and real cash prizes for the sharpest sleuths who crack them.
It’s all about pure deduction, fairness, fun… and that quiet thrill when everything suddenly clicks into place.
Curious how it all started? Scroll down to read my story.
I grew up in the late 1960s early 1970s as a little girl completely in love with music.
Every week felt like an adventure. On Sunday nights I’d be glued to the radio for the Top 20 countdown — that magical hour when the biggest hits of the week were revealed in reverse order, building to number one with all the drama of a finale.
The excitement of hearing whether your favourite had climbed or fallen was unbeatable.
Saturday mornings were sacred too. Tony Blackburn owned the airwaves with his bright, cheerful Saturday show — always full of energy, jingles, and the latest singles you just had to rush out and buy.
Noel Edmonds was another favourite — his warm, witty style and clever links made him feel like part of the family when he was on Radio 1.
And then there was Dave Lee Travis (DLT) with his larger-than-life personality, Steve Wright with his quick humour and brilliant record picks — they were the voices that soundtracked my childhood.
Vinyl ruled our house. I saved every penny of pocket money for 45rpm singles — those colourful paper sleeves, the big central hole, the satisfying crackle when the needle hit the groove.
Then came the holy grail: full albums.
I’d lie on my bedroom floor with headphones on, sleeve notes open, poring over every lyric, every musician credit, every photograph, trying to understand who played what and why a certain guitar line or drum fill made my heart skip.
By my teens cassettes arrived and changed everything.
I’d make mixtapes, record songs straight off the radio (praying the DJ didn’t talk over the intro), and carry my music everywhere on a Walkman.
Nightclubs and concerts became my teenage escape — standing in packed, sweaty venues, bass thumping through my chest, lights flashing across the stage while the whole crowd sang every word back.
Those nights are etched in me forever.
That childhood wonder — the thrill of discovery, the work of piecing together who or what made the sound, the joy of sharing a song that hit just right — never faded.
Years later, when I was thinking about a little creative project, it felt completely natural to turn that lifelong passion into something others could enjoy: cryptic music mysteries delivered straight to your inbox, clues hidden in lyrics, production trivia, chart positions, collaborations, iconic moments and Easter eggs, all solvable from the comfort of your sofa.
Music Sleuths is my way of sharing that same excitement I felt waiting for the next chart position, the next Tony Blackburn intro, or the next album to drop.
It’s cosy, it’s clever, it’s competitive, and it’s all about that quiet “aha!” moment when the pieces finally click.
Thanks for being here — whether you remember the Top 20 on Sunday nights, taped Radio 1 shows on cassette, or just love a great musical puzzle.
I hope you have as much fun sleuthing as I’ve had creating it.
